Luxem Delivers Complete Game Gem as LumberKings Win Six Straight

Clinton, IA - Keegan Luxem (UIC) fired off seven scoreless innings to earn a complete game victory as the Clinton LumberKings (12-7) bested the Normal CornBelters (11-9) 10-0. 

 

The game ended in the bottom of the seventh due to the 10-run rule. 

 

The team has won six straight games, the longest active winning streak in the Prospect League. They have also won seven consecutive games at home.

 

The game took just 1:58. Clinton sits atop the Northwest Division. 


Luxem struck out nine batters while only allowing three total runners. He did not walk a single batter. It is the first LumberKing complete game since June 4th, 2022. 

 

The LumberKings scored seven runs in the final three innings to put it away, with Jackson Mishler (Black Hawk) striking an RBI single to end in a walk-off. 

 

The scoring began in the first on a two-run inning.

 

Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) and Ben Toft (Iowa)  started the game with singles. Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western) reached on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0 for his 17 RBI of the year. 

 

Cole Lanclos (Baylor) grounded out, resulting in an RBI to score Toft. 

 

Clinton tacked on one in the third. Ziegler started the inning with a single and advanced to third on a groundout.

Gavin Awbrey (SCC) registered his 25th RBI on the year on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. He is up to 25 RBI on the year. He is tied second in the league in RBI.

 

Brody Shinkle (Creighton) scored another on an RBI single in the fifth. It was his 14th RBI of the season.

 

Clinton put up four in the sixth to make it 8-0. Mishler scored the first run of the inning. He reached on a hit by pitch and an error on a Ziegler bunt allowed him to score.

 

Toft had an RBI single for his 14th RBI of the season. The LumberKings scored two more on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly.

 

The team put it away in the seventh on a Kale Jensen (UIC) RBI triple and the Mishler single. Jensen finished with a double and triple.

 

Six straight wins matches the longest LumberKings winning streak since entering the Prospect League. 

 

Normal travels to the Burlington Bees (8-10) for a 6:30 p.m. game.
