LumberKings Capitalize on Dans’ Mistakes

CLINTON, Iowa — The Clinton LumberKings (9-5) used timely hitting and a handful of Danville Dans (4-6) defensive miscues to fuel a 10-4 win Wednesday night at NelsonCorp Field.

Clinton plated three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth, capitalizing on three Dans errors and stringing together 11 hits in the victory. Jamie Rasmussen led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring twice. The third baseman sparked the offense with an RBI single in the fifth and later added another in the eighth.

Second baseman Alex Schimmel chipped in a 2-for-4 night with two RBIs, while catcher Noah Thein and left fielder Danny Gavin each knocked in a pair as well. Clinton's eight-run surge over the middle innings proved to be the difference after Danville briefly made it a ballgame in the sixth.

The Dans strung together four runs on three hits in the top of the sixth, capped by a two-RBI single from Ben Fabbian and an RBI knock from Hayden Crites. That chased Clinton starter Jaqson Tejada (2-1), who earned the win despite allowing four earned runs over 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and four walks.

The bullpen took care of the rest. Tyler Welch bridged the next 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits, and Camden Clewett shut the door in the 9th with three strikeouts around a walk.

Danville starter Anthony Pesci (1-1) was charged with five runs—three earned—on six hits over four innings and took the loss. Reliever Nolan Decker gave up five more runs across four innings of work.

Clinton tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth. Rasmussen beat out an infield single for an RBI, then scored on a wild pitch after Brett White came home on the same errant toss. Schimmel's third single of the night brought in Rasmussen to put the game out of reach.

The LumberKings look for their 10th win of the season, a two-game series sweep and an undefeated three-game home stretch. First pitch is set for Wednesday at 6:30 pm against the Danville Dans.
