LumberKings Sweep Doubleheader in Burlington, Extend Win Streak to Five

BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Clinton LumberKings swept Saturday's doubleheader over the Burlington Bees at Community Field, edging out a 3-2 win in Game 1 before unleashing an offensive barrage in an 11-6 victory in Game 2. The pair of wins extends Clinton's record to 12-5, with five straight victories and eight wins in their last nine contests.

In the opener, Jalen Martinez led the charge with two hits and two RBIs, including a solo home run in the 3rd to put Clinton ahead 2-0. Nick Venteicher delivered the decisive blow in the 8th inning, singling home Brayden Mulkey to break a 2-2 tie.

Nick Baffa gave the Kings five solid innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Will Schufreider earned the win in relief despite allowing a game-tying solo shot in the 6th, while Camden Clewett shut the door with a scoreless 9th for his third save.

Burlington's Corey Boyette was responsible for both Bees runs, including a homer in the 6th to tie it. Starter Alex Logan was charged with the loss after surrendering two runs (one earned) across four innings. The Bees stranded seven runners and failed to score in the final three frames.

Clinton's bats erupted in the nightcap, pounding out 15 hits and scoring in five different innings, highlighted by a six-run 4th. Colin Coonradt led the way with four RBIs, including a towering 3-run homer to cap the 4th-inning rally. Venteicher and Sam Wiese also went deep, with Wiese adding two runs and an RBI. Brett White chipped in three hits and two runs, while Brayden Mulkey added a pair of hits and an RBI double.

Despite falling behind 4-1 after a four-run 2nd by Burlington — aided by a two-run triple from Kooper Schulte and an RBI single from Cole Yearsley — Clinton stormed back and never looked back. The LumberKings chased starter Reece Wissinger after three innings before tagging Zane Frese for five quick runs.

Tyler Welch tossed 2.2 shutout innings to close out the win after Rylen Blair (1-0) earned the victory in relief. Burlington drew four walks and tallied nine hits but couldn't overcome six unanswered runs between the 3rd and 4th.
