White’s Five-Hit Night Powers LumberKings Past Quincy, 11-3

QUINCY, Ill. — Brett White went 5-for-5 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run, as the Clinton LumberKings (27-10, 9-3) pounded out 15 hits in an 11-3 rout of the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (14-21, 5-7) on Friday night at QU Stadium.

Clinton took control in the 2nd inning. Brayden Mulkey opened the scoring with an RBI single to right, plating Cougar Cooke. Moments later, White crushed a three-run shot to left-center to make it 4-0. He added another RBI single in the 4th after Mulkey reached with his second hit of the night, stretching the lead to five.

The LumberKings piled on four more in the 5th. Noah Thein doubled to left-center to score Sam Wiese and Colin Coonradt, then came around on Cooke's RBI double. Mulkey followed with his third RBI of the night on a base hit to right, pushing the advantage to 9-0.

Quincy responded in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly from Kannon Kirk to score Tyler Butina, and Brady Kindhart came home on an RBI single by Byron Blaise, cutting the deficit to 9-2.

In the 7th, Nick Venteicher launched a two-run homer to left to score Cooke and give Clinton an 11-2 cushion. Kindhart added a solo homer for Quincy in the bottom of the frame, his third hit of the game, but the damage had long been done.

LumberKings starter JC Dermody improved to 3-0 after working 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking three. Jake Weissenberger handled the final 2.1 innings, giving up a solo homer among three hits and striking out two.

Tyler Dance took the loss for Quincy, dropping to 0-2 after surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings with four walks and two strikeouts. Jared Marty pitched the final 2.2 innings and gave up four more runs on seven hits, including Venteicher's homer.

Game two was played until the end of the 4th inning with the LumberKings leading 7-5. The game was suspended due to severe thunderstorms in the area and will be resumed at the top of the 5th on July 22nd, or the game will be completed if the Prospect League deems it as a complete game, thus putting the LumberKings 28-10 on the year. No decision has been made at the time of this report.
