LumberKings roll past Thrillbillies in dominant 10-1 road win
MARION, Ill. — The Clinton LumberKings (28-14, 11-7) strung together timely hitting, capitalized on defensive miscues, and got another strong outing from JC Dermody en route to a 10-1 win over the Thrillville Thrillbillies (25-19, 9-10) on Saturday night at Mtn Dew Park.
Clinton jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Sam Wiese opened the scoring in the 1st inning with an RBI single to right field, plating Nick Venteicher. An inning later, Drew Terpins doubled and came around on a Brayden Mulkey RBI double, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Brett White continued his red-hot stretch in the 3rd with a solo home run to center, his second of the season, making it 3-0.
The LumberKings broke the game open in the 5th, plating four runs while benefiting from two Thrillville errors. Kaden Frommelt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in one run, followed by a Terpins RBI single. Max Burt added a sacrifice fly, and Mulkey capped the rally with a perfectly placed infield single that made it 7-0.
Clinton tacked on three more in the 8th. After Burt reached on an error, White launched his second homer of the game, a two-run shot to center. Wiese followed later in the inning with his third hit of the night, scoring Jaime Rasmussen for a 10-0 advantage.
Thrillville got on the board in the bottom of the 8th with a sacrifice fly from Bryson Arnette, bringing home Eli Craft, but that would be all the offense they could muster.
Dermody (4-0) was sharp once again, spinning 6 1/3 shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, walked none, and struck out six. Clayton Johnson came on to finish the 7th, and relievers Nick Baffa and Rylen Blair each worked an inning to close out the victory.
On the other side, Carter McKinney (0-1) took the loss for the Thrillbillies, surrendering two runs on four hits over two innings. Thrillville used six pitchers total, who combined to allow 14 hits—10 of which were singles—and committed two costly errors.
White led the way offensively, going 4-for-5 with two homers and three RBIs. Wiese added three hits and drove in two. Mulkey chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. Terpins also had a pair of hits and a stolen base..
