LumberKings Drop Decision to CornBelters

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters (2-1) paced the middle innings to defeat the Clinton LumberKings (0-3) 8-1 May 28 at the Corn Crib

 

Normal grabbed hold of a 1-0 game with four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh. 

 

Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) had his breakout game, stealing four bases while having two hits and a run.

 

Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) put together a high quality start. The righty, a returner from last year, tossed four innings, surrendering two hits and one run.

 

Kerhli allowed a solo home run in the third that got the CornBelters on the board.

 

The CornBelters had five hits in the fifth inning to plate four. 

 

The LumberKings lone run came in the sixth. Ziegler was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and stole second. After moving to third on a Brody Shinkle (Creighton) fly out, Ziegler scored on a wild pitch.

 

Normal tacked on three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

 

Kirill Landy (Upper Iowa) tossed two innings with one earned run and four strikeouts out of middle relief. 

 

Conner Diiulio (Southeastern CC) threw a shutout in the eighth, pitching around two hits.

 

Isaac Sobizczyk (Missouri Western) also had a hit for the Clinton offense. 

 

The CornBelters play the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (2-1) in another divisional game June 28. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at QU Stadium. 

 

The LumberKings continue their road trip, traveling to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (2-1). First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
