Clinton Scores 15 In Win In Thrillville
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (7-7) scored in six consecutive innings to defeat the Thrillville Thrillbillies (6-9) 15-7 at Mtn Dew Park June 11.
The LumberKings posted a new-season high with 15 hits. It snapped a four-game road losing streak.
Gavin Awbrey (SCC) paced the offense with four RBI in a 4-5 effort. He is tied second in the league in RBI.
Drake Obermueller (DMACC) also had four RBI in a 2-4 affair. Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) also had two hits and three RBI. He registered his fourth doubles in two games.
Hunter Cook (DMACC) was masterful in the start. The righty tossed four hitless innings with no runs. He has not given up any runs in his last two starts.
Clinton broke through in the third inning after a scoreless two frames. Ben Toft (Iowa) led off with a single and stole second. Obermueller walked and Awbrey blooped a single to load the bases.
Frommelt worked a walk to get the team on the board. Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly. He is up to 10 RBI on the year.
With two outs in the fourth, the LumberKings scored three-more. Toft doubled to start the rally. He finished with four hits.
Obermueller and Awbrey followed with RBI-knocks, with Awbrey's being a ground-rule double to score two.
Clinton scored one time in the fifth on an error and in the sixth on an Awbrey RBI single.
The LumberKings hit around the order for six runs in the seventh. Toft, Obermueller, Awbrey and Frommelt all drove in runs in the rally. The final total in the inning was six runs on three hits.
Thrillville surrendered 12 free passes, totaling six walks and six hit batters.
The team also stole four bases, with Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) and Toft each having a pair. Ziegler is third in the league in swiped bags with 15.
The Thrillbillies scored six runs also in the seventh innings. They were held to two hits and one run before the rally.
Obermueller drove in two with a double in the eighth.
Kasey Clark (Black Hawk) got the win by throwing the fifth inning. He finished with one run allowed. Drake Downing got the loss.
Cooper Hathaway (Highland CC) tossed a scoreless sixth. Andrew Theiss (DMACC) hurled two shutout innings to finish the game. He has gone four straight outings without surrendering a run.
The LumberKings finished with five doubles and have 10 over their last two games.
The two teams face off tomorrow for a 7:00 p.m. game at MTN Dew Park.
