LumberKings Set Record for Most Runs in Single Game in Prospect League Era With Win Over Thrillville

Marion, IL - The Clinton LumberKings (8-7) scored 20 runs, the most in a single LumberKing game since joining the Prospect League in 2021, in a 20-2 win over the Thrillville Thrillbillies (6-10) at Mtn Dew Park June 12. 

 

The LumberKings scored 10 runs in the first inning, propelling them to the record breaking performance. It is the most runs in a LumberKing game since May 8th, 2014. 

 

The game ended after seven-innings due to the 10-run rule.

 

Clinton drove in 18 runs, which was also a LumberKings Prospect League Record. 

 

Gavin Awbrey (SCC) led the offense explosion. He finished with five RBI, three runs and two hits. Awbrey also worked three walks 

 

Karson Grout (State College of Florida) and Will Specht (Iowa Central) both drove in three runs. Specht hit his first homerun of the season. 

 

The team worked 14 walks and were hit by five pitches. 

 

Clinton scored 10 in the first on two hits. They drew seven walks, including three for RBI. Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) and Grout had hits in the rally. 

 

The team scored in each of the first six innings; meanwhile, Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) had a lengthy start. The righty tossed six innings, surrendering two runs. He finished the game with five scoreless to earn his first win of the year.

 

Noah Thein (Washington State) drove in a run in the second with two-on. An error allowed another to score to make it 12-2. 

 

Grout came up with his first triple of the year in the third to score Cole Lanclos (Baylor).

 

Clinton had five extra base hits, and has had five or more in three straight contests. 

 

Grout plated another on a fielder's choice in the fourth. It made the score 14-2. 

 

Awbrey blasted his third home run of the season in the fifth inning. He finished the game with 23 RBI, good for second in the league. 


Specht hit a solo home run in the sixth. It was the team's first game with multiple home runs. Awbrey registered an RBI double in the inning. 

 

Nick Hartje (Upper Iowa) threw a scoreless seventh to secure the run-rule victory. The LumberKings have won two games via the run-rule in the last week.

 

Clinton has won consecutive road games for the second time this season. 

 

Seth Pitcock got the loss. Brayton Coomer hit a two-run homerun for Thrillville in the first.


The Thrillbillies travel to the Jackson Rockabillies (10-6) for a divisional game June 13.

 

The LumberKings travel to the O'Fallon Hoots (7-9) for a 6:35 p.m. game at CarShield Stadium. It is the fifth game of a six-game road trip.
