Clinton Wins Slow and Steady Battle with Burlington
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (13-8) scored runs in five separate innings as they fended off the Burlington Bees (10-11) 10-7
The LumberKings have won seven of their last eight and are 8-2 in their first 10 at home. The team sits atop the Northwest Division percentage points.
The Clinton pitching stranded 13 Bees on the bases, while every LumberKing starter reached the bases.
The team jumped out to a three-run lead in the bottom of the first and were able to preserve it throughout the game.
Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) got the LumberKings on the board with an RBI single in the first. He finished with two hits and RBI.
Parker Studtmann (Iowa Central) had a fly out and Will Specht (Iowa Central) smacked an RBI single to make it 3-0.
After Burlington scored one in the top of the second, the LumberKings scored runs in four straight innings beginning in the third.
Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) started off the third with a one-out double. He is tied fourth in the league in doubles.
Cole Lanclos (Baylor) had a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1. Brody Shinkle (Creighton) came up with a two-out RBI single to add on another. He has 15 RBI on the season.
Frommelt kept it going with a 381ft homerun in the fourth. It was his first homerun of the season.
Burlington plated three in the top of the fifth to make it a two-run game. They stranded the tying runs.
With two on after a pitching change in the sixth, Ben Toft (Iowa) rolled a ball into center. Specht scored and a rundown allowed Lanclos to score.
Sobieszczyk walked to start off the sixth, and Studtmann got him home on an RBI double. Studtmann scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-6.
The LumberKings relievers kept them in the game. After starter Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) went 4.1 innings, Chase Dykstra (Iowa Central) got the win 1.2 innings of one earned run ball.
Chase Reeder (Iowa Central) threw 1.1 innings out of relief, striking out two with one run allowed.
Brayden Billingsley (John Melvin) got the save with 1.2 innings to finish the game. He entered with the bases-loaded and one out in the eighth, getting a chopper back to the mound that he turned into a double play.
The game was Clinton's first win over Burlington this season. The two teams play again June 21 at 2 p.m at NelsonCorp Field.
