LumberKings Stunned in Quincy

Quincy, IL - The Clinton LumberKings (14-10) surrendered 10 unanswered runs, as the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (15-9) won 16-7 at QU Stadium June 25. 

 

There is one game left in the first-half. Clinton needs to win at the Cape Catfish (19-7) and a Quincy loss at the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (7-17) June 26 to clinch the first-half title.

 

The LumberKings faced an early 5-0 deficit after the second inning. The team stormed a comeback and took the lead in the fourth.

 

The commotion began in the third inning. Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) kicked off the frame with a walk and stolen base. He is tied 7th in the league in walks with 22 and second in stolen bases with 27. 

 

Gavin Awbrey (SCC) punched him home with an RBI single to make it 5-1. It was his 30th RBI of the year, good for tied third in the league. 

 

Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) and Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) both drove singles to load the bases.

 

Karson Grout (State College of Florida) smashed a home run over the right field fence to tie the game. It was his first homerun of the season.

 

After Quincy took the lead in the bottom of the inning, Clinton kept it going. After starting the inning on a Jackson Mishler (Black Hawk) walk, Ziegler drove a double to the right center field fence. 

 

Ben Toft (Iowa) walked to load bases.

 

With two outs, Sobieszczyk worked a walk to tie the game up. Ziegler scored on a wild pitch. 

 

Quincy went on to score the next 10 runs and win the game.

 

Gavin McCullough (McLennan CC) got the loss. Jonny Rossi received the win.
