Clinton Smashes Four Home Runs in Second-Half Opening Win
Alton, IL - The Clinton LumberKings (15-10) hit four home runs in a 14-7 win over the Alton River Dragons (2-25) at Lloyd Hopkins Field June 27.
Every LumberKing starter had a hit, with the team totalling 18 hits, which is the most in a single-game since joining the Prospect League.
Carter Schueler (Sauk Valley), Brody Shinkle (Creighton), Grant Ingram (Bellarmine) and Karson Grout (State College of Florida) all went deep. It matches a LumberKing Prospect League for home runs in a single game. The team last achieved the feat at Chillicothe in 2023.
Schueler hit the home run in his first at-bat and rode the momentum to a four hit day. He also had a triple and drove in three runs.
Schueler and Shinkle went back to back in the top of the second to get the team on the board. It was both of their first homers of the season.
Ingram added on in the third with a three-run blast. It was his second long bomb of the summer.
After three innings, Clinton led 5-1. The LumberKings scored three runs in the fourth. Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) singled and Parker Studtmann (Iowa Central) got on board via an error.
Grout drove in one on an RBI single and Schueler smashed a triple to score two and make it 8-1.
Alton scored three times in the bottom of the fourth and once in the fifth to make it a three-run game.
Brayden Billingsley (John Melvin) got the start and tossed three innings, he surrendered four hits, one run and struck out two.
Chase Dykstra (Iowa Central) got the win with two innings out of relief. The Fulton High School graduate gave up two earned.
Connor Diiulio (Southeastern CC) pitched two shutout innings in the sixth and seventh. He left the tying runs on in the seventh.
Grout hit a three-run long bomb in the eighth to make it 11-5. He finished three for four with four RBI and has hit home runs in back to back games.
The LumberKings put it away with three more in the ninth to take a nine-run lead. Jackson Mishler (Black Hawk) singled and Ben Toft (Iowa) walked to put two on.
Cole Lanclos (Baylor) scored them both with a two RBI single. He has nine RBI in his last seven games.
Studtmann had an RBI single in the inning to plate one more. He has two runs and hits.
Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs on one hit.
Hayden Wilson received the loss.
Alton travels to the Cape Catfish (20-7) tomorrow. Clinton finished its six-day road trip at Community Field, taking on the Burlington Bees (11-15) for a 4:00 p.m. game.
