LumberKings Complete Five-Run Comeback On Burlington
Clinton, IA - Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) hit a two-strike, two-out 423ft bomb over the centerfield fence to give the Clinton LumberKings (16-10, 2-0) a 6-5 lead over the Burlington Bees (11-16. 0-2) in the top of the seventh inning.
The team trailed 5-0 going into the sixth inning, as the LumberKings would win 8-5 at Community Field June 28.
Clinton is 2-0 in the second half and the only team without a loss in the Northwest Division.
Burlington scored five runs over the first three innings, as Bee starter Tate Slagle tossed five hitless frames.
The LumberKings turned the ship around in the sixth inning, as the team registered their first hit on a Gavin Awbrey (SCC) RBI single with two-strikes. Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) and Cole Lanclos (Baylor) reached to start the inning on an error and hit by pitch.
Karson Grout (State College of Florida) put another on the board with an RBI groundout. He finished with 10 RBI on the week.
Sobiesczyk walked and Carter Schueler (Sauk Valley) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Brody Shinkle (Creighton) drew an RBI walk to make the game 5-3. Shinkle has 17 RBI on the year and has driven in a run in back to back games.
The LumberKings went on to take the lead in the seventh. Ziegler led off the frame with a walk and stole second. He is second in the league with 28 stolen bases.
Lanclos drove a single up the middle to score Ziegler and pull the team within one. The Baylor product has 10 RBI in his last eight games.
With two outs and Burlington's closer, Jake Weissenberger, in to pitch, Sobieszczyk hit his second homerun of the year to make it 6-5. It was his second home run of the summer.
After Clinton reliever Miller Tavaglione (Allen County CC) threw a scoreless seventh and stranded two, the LumberKings kept it going in the eighth.
With two outs, Lanclos drove a double to shallow right field to put one on.
Awbrey followed up with a two-run shot over the left field fence. It was his team-leading fifth home run of the summer.
He has 33 RBI on the season, good for second in the Prospect League. His homer made it 8-5.
The LumberKings bullpen threw six scoreless innings.
Jai Jensen (Southern Indiana) got the win with 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The righty has struck out two while allowing one hit.
Kasey Clark (Black Hawk) threw a scoreless eighth and Andrew Theiss (DMACC) pitched the ninth. Theiss earned his third save of the season, good for second in the league.
The LumberKings have hit six home runs over the last two games.
Weissenberger registered the loss for the Bees.
Burlington begins a three-game set on the road against Illinois Valley (9-18, 1-1) June 30.
