LumberKings Plate Six in Fourth Inning to Beat Decatur

Clinton, IA - After falling to an early three-run lead, the Clinton LumberKings (17-11, 2-1) scored six-runs in the fourth to beat the Decatur Bean Ballers (9-20, 0-5) 8-6 at NelsonCorp Field July 1. 

 

The LumberKing pitchers helped strand 10 Bean Ballers on the bases, as the staff surrendered just two runs in the last five innings. 

 

Jayden Bazile (Kaskaskia), in his second game of the season, finished three for three with three runs. He reached in all five of his plate appearances, while smashing two doubles. 

 

Decatur scored the first three runs of the game in the third inning. The LumberKings scored one run in the bottom of the frame. After a Bazile double, Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) brought him home with an RBI single. 

 

The Bean Ballers regained a three-run lead with one run on no hits in the fourth, before the LumberKings put together their rally. 

 

The inning began on a hit by pitch, with Grant Ingram (Bellarmine) doubling to put two on. 

 

Brody Shinke (Creighton) laced a double out to left field to score. He has a hit in six-straight games.

 

Jackson Mishler flew out to right, with Shinkle advancing to third. A throwing error scored him to tie it.

 

With two outs, Cole Lanclos (Baylor) singled to center. After stealing second, Bazile brought him home with an RBI single to give the team the lead. Lanclos has multiple hits in four-straight. 

 

Frommelt singled and Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.



Tanner Short (University of Nevada) came up with his first LumberKing hit to make it 6-4, with a wild pitch tacking on another run. 

 

 

Three Clinton relievers combined for the final seven innings. Kasey Clark (Black Hawk) got the win with two innings, surrendering one run and no hits. 

 

Gavin McCullough threw three innings, giving up one run. He struck out one. 

 

Miller Tavaglione (Allen County CC) got his first save of the season by tossing the final two frames. He gave up no earned runs. 

 

Manuel Toro got the loss for Decatur.

 

The Bean Ballers return home for a double header against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (12-17, 1-3). 

 

The LumberKings head on the road for a two-game set against the Burlington Bees (14-16, 3-2). Game one will be at 6:30 p.m. from Community Field
