LumberKings Drop Close One to Burlington
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (4-2,15-16) scored four runs over the final two innings to beat the Clinton LumberKings (3-2, 17-12) 6-5 July 2 at Community Field.
Drew Terpins (Mount Mercy) had a memorable return to the team. After being an all-star last year, Terpins went three for four with two RBI and a run.
Burlington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Clinton answered with three runs.
Ben Toft (Iowa) walked and Gavin Awbrey (SCC) singled.
Caden Sammler (FIC) picked up his first LumberKing hit on an RBI double.
Terpins followed with a two-run bomb. It was his first Clinton homerun.
The game did not have a run until the sixth inning.
Brayden Billingsley (John Melvin) had his best start of the season. He tossed five innings, allowing four hits and one run.
Burlington scored one in the sixth to make it 3-2.
The LumberKings had three straight walks in the seventh, before a Kale Jensen (UIC) two RBI single to give Clinton a 5-2 lead.
The Bees scored three in the eighth and one in the ninth to end the game.
Jake Weissenberger got the win. Jai Jensen (University of Southern Indiana) got the loss.
The two teams face off again at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Community Field.
