LumberKings Go Big Early to Beat Bees, Lanclos Finishes With Four Hits
Burlington, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (4-2, 18-12) got on the board seven times in the first three innings to bounce back against the Burlington Bees (4-3, 15-17) with a 8-6 win July 3 at Community Field.
The game was suspended in the midst of the ninth inning due to weather and unplayable conditions, which made the result final on the completion of the eighth inning.
The LumberKings are back home July 4 against Burlington, as part of the July 4th Clinton Tradition. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
Clinton's offense finished with 12 hits, while the pitching stranded 14 Bees.
Cole Lanclos (Baylor) and Grant Ingram (Bellarmine) paced the offense. Lanclos finished four for four with two runs and an RBI. He reached in all five plate appearances.
Ingram had three RBI, including a two-run bomb in the third inning. It was his third homerun of the season, which have all come in the last seven games.
Clinton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, beginning on a Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) walk. He stole both second and third, before Lanclos drove him home on an RBI single.
Ziegler finished with three stolen bases. He's got 32 on the season, one short of the league-lead and matching the LumberKings single-season Prospect League record.
Isaac Sobiesczyk (Missouri Western State) followed with an RBI single. He drove in two runs to get to 25 RBI on the year.
Ingram had his first RBI on a single in the inning. Clinton headed to the bottom of the first with a 3-0 lead.
Burlington scored once in the bottom of the innings. The LumberKing offense cashed four more times in the third.
Lanclos kicked off the frame with a double out to left field. He stole third and came home on a Sobiesczyk RBI groundout.
With the bases empty, Carter Schueler (Sauk Valley) doubled and JT Augustyniak (Kaskaskia) walked. Ingram smashed them in with a three run bomb
After a pitching change, Tanner Roberts (Friends University) walked and Ben Toft (Iowa) singled. Roberts scored on a wild pitch.
Burlington answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. The game would not see another run until the sixth inning.
Jack Robertson (Augustana) got the win with two shutout innings out of relief. Quinn Wilfong got the loss.
The Bees made it 7-4 with a run in the sixth. Clinton answered in the eighth with a run.
Ziegler reached on an error and swiped second. Lanclos brought him home on an RBI single.
Burlington scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to make it a two-run game.
