LumberKing Bats Revived in Run-Rule Victory Against Alton

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (22-12, 8-2) scored 12 unanswered runs, including seven in the sixth inning, to defeat the Alton River Dragons (3-33, 1-9) 13-3 in eight innings July 9 at NelsonCorp Field.

 

The game ended after eight-innings due to the 10-run rule. 

 

Clinton extends its winning streak to five-games. 

 

The LumberKings trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the fourth. The team picked up their first hit in the sixth, exploding into a seven-run rally. 

 

Chance Key (Ohio State) got the win with three scoreless out of the bullpen. He struck out two.

 

Both teams exchanged runs in the first. After Alton went up 1-0, Cole Lanclos (Baylor) led off with a walk. 

 

He stole second and moved to third on an error. Drew Terpins (Mount Mercy) brought him home on a sacrifice fly. Lanclos moves to 17 stolen bases on the season. 

 

 Alton scored two on a Charlie Berry two-RBI double to make it 3-1. 

 

Clinton scored one in the fourth. After a Tanner Roberts (Friends University) walk and a Brody Shinkle (Creighton) hit by pitch.

 

Both players attempted a double steal, with a throwing error allowing Shinkle to score. 

 

The game swung in the sixth inning when the LumberKings brought 10 players up and scored seven. 

 

Tanner Short (Nevada) walked, Jayden Bazile (Kaskaskia) singled and Roberts was hit to load the bases. 

 

Shinkle drove an RBI single into center field to tie the game. He is up to 20 RBI on the season.

 

Lanclos followed with a two RBI double out to center to give the team the lead. It was his fifth double of the season.

 

Terpins flew out for his second sacrifice fly of the game. He has brought home nine runs in five games. 

 

Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) drove an RBI double to make it 7-3. It was his 11th double, good for fifth in the league.

Caden Sammler (FIC) doubled and Tanner Short (singled) to conclude the rally and make it 9-3. 

 

After a scoreless seventh, the LumberKings ended the game with four runs in the eighth. 

 

Lanclos led off the inning with a single.

 

The game ended with six-straight walks, with Sammler, Short, Bazile and James Burgess (Sauk Valley) each getting an RBI. 

 

Clinton's offense worked 12 walks and were hit by three pitches. Four LumberKings had multiple RBI. 

 

Jack Turgasen (Mount Mercy) tossed two scoreless to finish the game.

 

Alton's starter, Darren Rosenberg, threw 3.2 innings with no hits or earned runs allowed.
