Shadflies Blast Their Way To Run-Rule Victory Over River Dragons

Clinton, IA - Five Shadflies had multiple RBI as the Clinton Shadflies (23-12, 9-2) beat the Alton River Dragons (3-34, 1-10) 18-7 in seven innings July 10 at NelsonCorp Field.

 

The game ended in seven-innings due to the 10-run rule. Clinton extends its win streak to six-games, matching its longest in the Prospect League-Era.

 

The Shadflies scored 18 runs over a span of four innings. The team had five extra-base hits, including home runs from Kale Jensen (UIC) and Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State).

 

Alton's Caynen Patterson hit a leadoff home run in the first to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

 

Clinton put up three runs in the second, beginning on a Jensen two-run blast. It was his first long-bomb of the season.


After a JT Augustyniak (Kaskaskia) walk, Grant Ingram (Bellarmine) smacked an RBI double. He extended his hitting-streak to eight games to make it 3-1. 

 

Alton scored four runs on four hits in the third to take 5-3 lead. The Shadfly offense kept it going in the bottom of the inning. 

 

Clinton started the third with three walks to load the bases. Jensen was hit by a pitch to pull the team within one.

 

Augustyniak singled to center field out of an 0-2 count to give the Shadflies the lead. He had three RBI and four runs in the game.

 

Brody Shinkle (Creighton) came up with a two-out, two RBI single and Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) also had an RBI single to total a five-run inning. 

 

Sobieszczyk drove a 414ft two-run home run with nobody out in the fourth. 

 

Tanner Short (Nevada) followed it with a double, before scoring on a throwing error. 

 

The Shadflies would score three more runs in the inning on no hits. Alton had three errors in the frame. 

 

In the fifth, Augustyniak had a two RBI single, Shinkle had a sacrifice fly and Ziegler had an RBI single to finish with four more runs on two hits. 

 

Kasey Clark (Black Hawk) got the win with 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He struck out three.


Jaqson Tejada (NIU) threw two innings out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs while striking out five. 

 

Six Alton pitchers threw, with Griffin Kelly getting the loss. 

 

Alton returns home to take the O'Fallon Hoots (21-14,6-3).

 

Clinton heads to Schweickert Stadium to take on the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (10-26, 2-9) at 6:35 p.m.
