LumberKings Drop Battle in Illinois Valley
Peru, IL - The Clinton LumberKings (23-13, 9-3) surrendered runs in the final four innings to lose to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (11-26,3-9) 11-6 July 11 at Schweickert Stadium.
The game was 1-1 headed to the bottom of the fifth before Illinois Valley scored 10 runs in the final four innings.
Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) led the offense on a three-hit night. He had two doubles, an RBI and reached all five-times.
The Pistol Shrimp scored an unearned run in the second to get on the board in the second inning. Frommelt tied it up with an RBI single in the fourth.
Illinois Valley built up a 5-1 lead going into the seventh when Clinton scored another run.
Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) started the frame with his first triple of the season. Cole Lanclos (Baylor) brought him home on an RBI single.
The Pistol Shrimp plated four in the bottom of the frame and two more in the eighth to expand their lead to nine.
Clinton showed life in the ninth inning with a stretch of four-straight extra-base hits.
Caden Sammler (FIU) led off the inning with a walk.
Frommelt drove his second double of the game for an RBI. It was his 20th hit and eighth double of the season.
Kale Jensen (UIC) followed with a two-bagger of his own to score one. It was his 10th hit of the year.
Jayden Bazile (Kaskaskia) legged out his first RBI triple of the season and JT Augustyniak (Kaskaskia) followed with an RBI double.
The Clinton rally would stutter out. Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) got the loss, with Ryan Duncheon receiving the win with five innings out of the bullpen.
Illinois Valley travels to the Burlington Bees (18-21, 7-7) for a July 11 game at Community Field.
