Jensen Grand Slam Completes Seven-Run Comeback in Chillicothe

Chillicothe, OH  - Down 6-0 going into the fourth, the Clinton LumberKings (25-13, 11-3) rallied to take their first lead when Kale Jensen (Missouri Western State) blasted a grand slam in the seventh to beat the Chillicothe Paints (21-20, 9-5) 17-7 at VA Memorial Stadium July 15. 

 

 

Clinton scored five in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the seventh to take its first lead. The team padded their lead with seven runs in the final two frames. 

 

Five LumberKings had multiple RBI. Jensen led the way with five RBI in a one for three effort. 

 

Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) went three for four with two RBI and walks. He blasted a 442ft home run in the fifth inning for his second of the season. 

 

Caden Sammler (Missouri State) also had three hits, while scoring twice and driving in two. 

 

Cole Lanclos (Baylor) finished three for five with two runs and RBI, 

 

The LumberKings bullpen combined 6.3 scoreless innings split among five pitchers. The team left 13 Paints on the bases throughout the game. 


Kasey Clark (Black Hawk) took over in the third and threw 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out two batters. 

 

Miller Tavaglione (Columbus State) got the win with 1.1 innings, stranding two in the sixth. He is 4-0 on the season.

 

Lucas Winburn (Delta State) had his best outing of the season, tossing two scoreless innings. He got back to back double plays to get out of the seventh and eight. 

 

Chillicothe scored six times in the third to take a 7-0 lead. Clinton began chipping away in the fourth.

 

After starting the inning with three walks, Sammler drove an RBI single. Jensen and Brody Shinkle (Johnson County CC) came through with sacrifice flies. Shinkle finished with two RBI to get up to 24 on the season.

 

Lanclos drove his first triple of the season down the right field line with two-outs to cap off the five-run inning. 


Frommelt hit his homer in the fifth to pull the team within one.

 

Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western) started off the seventh with a walk. Frommelt singled and Sammler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jensen came up with the grand slam in a 10-pitch at-bat. 

 

Clinton added two in the eighth on a wild pitch to score Sobieszczyk and an RBI double from Sammler. He has seven RBI in seven games. 

 

The team put it away in the ninth after the first six LumberKings reached. Wrigley Matthys (Iowa) had an RBI walk to start the scoring.


Sobieszczyk drove a two-RBI single. He is up to 35 RBI on the season, one away from matching Clinton's single-season Prospect League Record.

 

Frommelt also has an RBI single in the rally.

 

Chillicothe travels to the Dubois County Bombers (22-18, 5-8) July 16.

 

Clinton continues its five-game road trip with a matchup at the Johnstown Mill Rats (21-18, 6-7). First pitch is slated at 6:00 CST.

 

The two teams meet again on Sunday, July 21.
