Sobieszczyk Sets Single Season RBI Record in Loss to Cornbelters

Clinton, IA - Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western) drove in two RBI on a double to the left field gap in the fifth inning to bring his RBI total to 37 on the season.

 

 This set a new single-season record in LumberKings Prospect League History, breaking Matt Scherrman's 36 RBI from the 2022.

 

The Clinton LumberKings (26-15, 12-5) gave up runs in three-straight innings to lose 10-4 to the Normal Cornbelters (27-19, 12-8) July 21 at NelsonCorp Field.

 

The game began as a pitcher's duel, with Normal breaking through for two runs in the fourth. They hit a grand slam in the fifth and plated three more in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead.

 

Clinton scored twice in the sixth on Sobieszczyk's double to make it 9-2. 

 

The team tacked on one more in the seventh. Jayden Bazile (Indiana State) led off the frame and JT Augustyniak (Kaskaskia) picked up an RBI single.

 

Augustyniak led the offense with two hits, a hit, RBI, walk and stolen base. 

 

Normal and Clinton traded runs in the ninth inning. Wrigley Matthys (Iowa) picked up an RBI to score Augustyniak within the frame.

 

Brody Meyers (Rollins) received the loss. He gave up two runs over three innings with three strikeouts. Brock Fearday got the win with five scoreless innings,

 

The Clinton defense turned five double plays in the game, a new Prospect League Record for most in a single-game. 

 

Jack Robertson (Augustana) shined with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. He gave up one hit. 

 

Clinton continues its seven-game homestand with a double header against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (13-32, 5-15) July 21.
