Awbrey Break Single Season Home Run Record in Loss to Burlington

Clinton, IA  - The Clinton LumberKings (28-16,14-6) surrendered eight runs in the sixth inning to lose 9-2 to the Burlington Bees (28-21,17-7) July 23 at NelsonCorp Field.

 

Gavin Awbrey smashed a seventh inning home run for his eighth of the season. The total is the highest in a single LumberKings Prospect League Season, breaking Luke Ira's record from 2022. 

 

With the win, Burlington takes over the top spot in the Northwest Division with eight games left to play. The two teams play again tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at NelsonCorp Field. 

 

The game began as a pitcher's duel, with Nick Baffa (Valparaiso) tossing four innings with one run allowed in the start.

 

Blake Gaskey for Burlington took over. He threw eight innings and surrendered just two hits and one run. He began the game with 6.1 hitless frames, before Awbrey hit the homer. 

 

Burlington scored the first run in the fourth before the big sixth inning. 

 

Kale Jensen (Missouri Western) picked up a double and a walk.


Baffa registered the loss.
