Elotes Beaten By Bean Ballers

Clinton, IA - The Clinton Elotes (29-17, 15-7) surrendered four in the top of the eighth to lose 8-4 to the Decatur Bean Ballers (17-32, 8-17) July 26 at NelsonCorp Field.

 

Clinton took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Decatur followed with seven unanswered runs to put the game out of reach. 

 

The game began as a pitcher's duel between Luke Kehrli (Mount Mercy) and Adam Cooper. Both starters began the game with three scoreless. 

 

Decatur scored first in the fourth, with Clinton answering with a run of its own. Brody Shinkle (JCCC) brought home Kale Jensen (Missouri Western State) on an error. 

 

In the fifth, Cole Lanclos (Baylor) led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Clinton was hit by five pitches in the game.


Gavin Awbrey (SCC) smashed an RBI triple to give the Elotes the lead. He finished with two RBI to get up to 44 on the season.

 

Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) followed with his 13th double of the season to plate Awbrey. 

 

The Bean Ballers built a 8-3 lead going into the eighth. Awbrey had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to make it a four run game.

 

Schafer Ogle threw five innings without allowing an earned run in the victory for the Bean Ballers. Grayson Kirsch (DMACC) got the loss.

 

The LumberKings trail the Burlington Bees (29-22, 18-8) headed into the last week of the season for the top spot in the Northwest Division.

 

Clinton has Monday, July 27 off. They resume action at the Lafayette Aviators (27-22,10-13) at 6:00 p.m. July 28.
