Clinton Lumber Kings

Lafayette, IN - Brody Meyers (Rollins College) tossed five scoreless innings while giving up two hits to lead the Clinton LumberKings (30-18,16-8) to a 10-6 victory over the Lafayette Aviators ( 28-24, 11-15) at Loeb Stadium July 28.

Meyers earned his first victory of the season. After surrendering hits to his first two batters of the game, he settled in for five scoreless frames. He struck out three and produced three double plays. '

The LumberKings offense broke through for four runs in the third inning. Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) blasted a two-strike, two-out RBI double to make it 2-0. Sobieszczyk is up to 41 RBI on the season.

Kaden Frommelt (Florida State) grounded to third, creating a fielding error to plate two more and make it 4-0 after the third. 

Lafayette would not score until the sixth inning to make it a three run game. Clinton immediately answered with a sacrifice fly from Gavin Awbrey (Southeastern CC) that scored Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa).

Ziegler stole three bases in the game to get to 40 on the season. He is the first player in the Prospect League to reach the 40-stolen base mark this season.

The Aviators plated one more in the bottom of the seventh. 

Brayden Billingsley (John Melvin) entered the game with bases loaded and one out. He struck out two batters to keep it a three-run game.

The first four LumberKings in the top of the eighth reached, including an RBI walk from Bryce Pauly (Indiana). JT Augustyniak (Kaskaskia) reached on a fielder's choice and Ziegler grounded out to score two more.

After another Lafayette run in the eighth, Clinton scored two more in the ninth. 

Kale Jensen (Missouri Western) blasted a 411ft two-run home run over the right field fence for his third homer of the season to make it 10-3. 

The Aviators scored three more in the ninth but came up short. 

Six LumberKings had an RBI in the game. 

Benjamin Rohrbach got the loss.

Clinton and Lafayette play again tomorrow at Loeb Stadium. The game is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. CST.
