LumberKings Walk Off in Extras, Win Streak at Six Games
CLINTON, Iowa — Brytton Clements played the hero on Saturday night, delivering a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to cap off the Clinton LumberKings' (13-5) 7-6 comeback win over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (5-11) at NelsonCorp Field.
Clements drove a 1-out pitch into the left-center gap to plate Drew Terpins from second, lifting Clinton (13-5, 7-2) to its 5th straight win and a sweep of the weekend series. The LumberKings overcame a 6-2 deficit behind a late offensive surge and a lockdown bullpen performance.
Springfield built a 5-2 lead after a four-run 3rd inning that included a sac fly from Louie Bartletti, an RBI double by George Betevis, and a two-run single from Mark Snowden. Betevis added another RBI knock in the 5th to make it 6-2.
Clinton began chipping away in the 6th. James Hackett singled in Colin Coonradt, and Clements followed with a sac fly to pull within two. In the 7th, Drew Phillips raced home on a wild pitch to make it 6-5. An inning later, Brayden Mulkey tied the game with an RBI single to right, scoring Clements.
From there, the bullpen took over. Jalen Martinez tossed 2 scoreless innings before Ethan Dorka (1-0) shut the door in the 10th with a 1-2-3 frame, earning the win.
Clements finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a pair of doubles. Terpins continued his strong week at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Martinez also added a hit and reached third in the 7th before scoring the tying run.
Springfield outhit Clinton 12-10, led by Betevis (3-for-5, 2 RBI) and Veach (2-for-4, double, walk), but left eight on base and couldn't crack the LumberKings' late-game arms. Starter Chance Key was tagged for 5 runs in 3 innings, but relievers Payton Hodges, Martinez, and Dorka combined for 7 innings and just 1 unearned run.
The LumberKings travel to Quincy for the first time since 2023 as the former Gems, now Doggy Paddlers, will host the LumberKings for a two-game series starting Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Fans can watch on prospectleaugenetwork.com or listen for free at wcciradio.com or tune in to 100.3 WCCI-FM.
